About me
Hi there, and welcome to my personal website! I am Ajay Mandyam Rangarajan, currently working as a Senior Software Engineer in the GPU Meshing team at Ansys/Synopsys in Germany.
Before joining Ansys, I spent four amazing years at Dassault Systèmes in Darmstadt, Germany, across both software engineering and product management roles, with a focus on electromagnetic simulation software and CFD meshing.
Before Dassault Systèmes, I worked at RWTH Aachen University as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Karen Veroy-Grepl. My research focused on reduced order modeling and parameter reduction. I earned my Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing) in Computational Sciences from RWTH Aachen University in 2021, where I focused on anisotropic meshing for higher order methods, particularly in external aerodynamic applications, with Prof. Georg May. My Erdős number is 4.
Since 2025, I have been spending some focused time on technical AI safety (mostly research during free time). One of the best finds for this avenue was the Apart Sprint hackathons. You can find some of our previous projects here and here. One such project ended up as a blog on LessWrong.
In parallel, I also fell in love with CrossFit which is definitely not a cult (it is, :D). I liked it so much that I built a small training dashboard of tracking my training here. The CrossFit box I go to is super fun and the coaches and people there are amazing, reach out to me to learn more about it, and if you want, join me for a class.
I have a passion for reading (mostly non-fiction), training for and running marathons and triathlons, and traveling to countries far away. You can find more about my adventures here. Additionally, I enjoy automating various tasks and have a collection of interesting scripts and hacks. You can check out some of these projects in my portfolio.
I keep this website updated as much as I can with the latest news about my personal and professional projects, goals, and achievements.
Feel free to download my below CV to learn more about my academic background, research interests, publications, and professional experiences.
Please note that I am actively building a workflow where this website is updated automatically through Python scripts, backed by a small personal data management system that keeps my website, CV, and other profiles consistent from a single source of truth. As I improve this setup, you might occasionally notice small formatting issues, missing links, or slightly outdated sections. If you spot anything off, I would genuinely appreciate a quick message so I can fix it. Looking forward to your feedbacks!
